Challenge Quest at “Rail Baltic” Conference

The international Rail Baltic conference took place in the conference hall “Fantadroms” in Jaunā Teika, Rīga with 200 guests from Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

I made the indoor escape room game, where all participants took part simultaneously. The players had 60 minutes to solve the mystery of the Northern Express.

The game was designed with a completely new and individual scenario. It can also be adapted to other themed locations. For example, this quest can be held at the Railway Museum or Hanzas Perons.

Nord Express Mystery — Indoor Quest

The Orient Express was a luxury passenger train that shuttled between Paris and Istanbul in the late 19th and first half of the 20th century.

Franz Joseph, Elisabeth II, Charles de Gaulle, Agatha Christie, and other celebrities have traveled on the Orient Express at various times.

The Express is known for a number of literary and cinematic works, most notably Agatha Christie’s detective novel “Murder on the Orient Express”.

Nord Express

A century later, rail connections have not lost their importance. Like the Orient Express back then, the Rail Baltica, the Northern Express of our day will be more than just a transport and economic project. It will reawaken the spirit of discoverers and romantic travelers. It will make cities that were once distant from each other closer and more accessible.

We invite you to take part in the “Nord Express Mystery” quest and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a time when there were still blank spots on the map, and unexplored places lured explorers and riddle fans.

Indoor quest is a team game with various puzzles and riddles. Players are limited in time and need to interact with each other and find a solution together. Logic and wit will come in handy during the game.

How is “Nord Express Mystery” Played?

Participants will find an envelope on each table at the start with an Express ticket — the rules of the game and a QR code to access the game.

The game is played on a special website, so players will need a smartphone or tablet with an internet connection. The quest works as follows: go to the specified zone — solve the riddle — input it on the game website — get the next task.

The tasks of the game are varied: searching for and using game props, puzzles and ciphers. Participants can use hints to make the game more dynamic.

The team completing all the tasks faster and more accurately wins.

The game will last up to 1 hour. Duration can be adjusted to your needs by adding or removing tasks.

Style and Inspiration

Riga is the capital of Art Deco and Art Nouveau. The 1920s and 1930s were the heyday of the Rail Baltic project countries. For the design of the game and printed materials, I will take examples from that era. But, as opposed to The Great Gatsby with its gold and glamour, this will be a more strict and modern interpretation — monochrome Neo Deco.
