I do wish our /tg/ were more active. Near everyone here is a traditional gaming fan and this is a nearly derp free zone. By all rights the game stories thread should be packed for instance. Hell, I'd even listen to DH and "my awesome paladin" stories.

Ok, that last is a lie.

I'm aware of what the word means.
I just don't see how it fits in particular.

I also question the wisdom of taking a word and making it the name, rather than using syllables from different words or whatever.

A name isn't necessary. We've gone for quite some time without one. It would be convenient in certain cases though.

Alluvium as a synonym for Earth is OK, but doesn't really sing. Trying various English-Latin translations for relevant words like <unified setting son daughter child traditional games four chan> yields <unified occasus filius filia parvulus institutio venatus quattuor chan> which also lack punch.

Maybe another language?

Okay, since the main post was massively outdated and it was filled with unpleasant things that could drive a newbie away, I've decided to just go ahead and start a new one.

TGMUD is a Multi User Dungeon created for /tg/chan, with mostly /quest/ content, based off the CoffeeMUD engine (which is really fantastic, if a bit buggy). It is now graciously hosted by Dylan, possibly until TLE reappears if he is willing to host it again.

The channel is #tgmud on irc.rizom.net. The MUD is hosted on www4.tgchan.org temporarily, on port 5555.

If you were a member of the old tgMUD, I sincerely apologize. It is difficult to run a project, and I definitely did not handle it the right way. If you felt insulted or wronged by my behavior, I am sorry for it, and I would like to welcome you back to the reboot with no hard feelings. I promise to be less of a dick this time.

In the beginning, there were five spirits of living music.
Nysta, the beatific and happy.
Hrya, the melancholy and loving.
Oosa, the fun and joyous.
Farnle, the angry and loud.
and Sorfan, the Conductor.

Together they played in the void, happy to weave a song that went nowhere. But one day, Oosa made a suggestion.

"We have no audience for which to play. Our melodies go unrecorded and are fleeting. We should make an audience to play for, one that will dance and play and revel in our song!"

Humans are the only race to which all classes are available. There are four kinds of human: Savage, City, Noble, and Rural.

Savage humans are stronger than average, and have a greater fortitude. They are less capable and patient in society, though.
>+2 STR, +2 CON, -2 CHA

City humans are not neccesarily smarter, but are almost universally taught some sort of magic as they grow up, surrounded by wizards, sorcerors, and bards.
>+2 INT, Choose 1 0-level spell from any Arcane spell list. This can be used as a spell-like ability. caster level is based on character level.

Noble humans are born and raised in ivory towers and castles, distant from society as a whole. They are mentally trained to be great spellcasters, so that they may properly rule over the 'lesser people' and 'protect them'. Some Nobles in fact live up to this obligation, using their bearucratic power to help those below them. Most, however, do not.

Dwarves are people of the earth, animated when Farnle and Oosa had a contest of song in a rocky chasm. Farnle's song gave birth to the Dwarves from the ore-filled boulders. They have eyes of gold, silver, or copper, and flesh of a stone similar to marble. Thir beards are similar to steel wool, and their blood is like very hot sand.
>+2 CON, +2 STR, Damage reduction 2/magic. This damage reduction increases by 2 every third level, capping at 10. Dwarves are always provicient with Axes, Maces, and military picks, regardless of class.

Halflings are cousins of the Dwarf. When Oosa and Farnle had their musical duel in the chasm, Oosa's song animated the loam and pebbles and jewels, giving birth to the Halflings. Halflings are nomadic, clever folk, who are happy to help others and just as happy to relieve them of their wallets. Thier philosiphy is that

Crosspostan from 4chan :V

I come to you because I am in an interesting situation, with an opportunity. You see, in my 4e game, normally, I play a Seeker. When the player who is often away, is, I play her Archer warlord as well.

Well, the DM finally got tired of her shit, and kicked her from the group. So I thought, rather than continue playing her character, I'd make my own Warlord/other leader, and have some fun of my own!

The group currently is a Centered Breath Monk, a Fighter that generates temporary hit points like crazy, a Seeker, and an archer warlord. My current plan is pic related, especially since we're about to go and fight us some Drow. We're lvl 4.

tl;dr, what leader role character should I make to replace a absentee player?

I find them awesome, but I'm confused about their capability to fly. Basicly, says you get flight when you reach "5 Hit Dice" and you get better at it when you get "10 Hit Dice".
How does one improve his Hit Dice? I'm really confused here. If I'm a sorc and multiclass a barbarian do I start flying? Does my HD get higher at a certain level?

Horror story time!

I'll start~

Now, the first time I met The Ravenloft DM was away from the table. He was a pretty big guy. Almost morbidly obese, but he was alright to talk to. Until you spoke of two things: 40k or religion. Jesus fuck this guy hated religion. He wasn't athiest. He hated god SO FUCKING MUCH, he had to believe in Him.

So he's starting a campaign. Myse;f, being a freshmen to the college at the time, was eager to meet new people.
"Very well, my good man, I shall step up to the plate!"
"I see that," he responded, "what shall you play?"
Now, I thought to myself, and said, internally: I love playing clerics. I love Cuthbert. But he hated religion as a rule. So instead, spake I:
"I will play a cleric who worships Law."
He pauses for a moment, looking through the book. Helpfully, I add, "If it's alright, I will take the Law and Strength domains. They are listed under Cuthbert."
"Then why not follow Cuthbert?" asks he. Respond I:
"I would, but I know your stance on dogma, and,"
He waves his hand and

Sounds like what a lawful evil GM would do.

Anyway, my story begins with an insane were-rat druid. Yes I make difficult characters. The whole focus of her character was that if her fellow druids discovered she was an abomination and an affront to nature at any time, they would tear her to ribbons. So I joined a group with this character, and I'm playing it up, dangling my dark secret around like it were a handkerchief with just the barest hint of blood on it. One of the other characters (a sorcerer) bluntly demands to know what my secret is. I forget exactly how he worded it but it wasn't the sort of thing my character would tell anyone ever at pain of death or worse. Also he was being totally meta, and I suspect he snuck a peek at my character sheet before that.

So I refuse of course. And the GM is all "Oh, well, I think you need to roll to see if he intimidates you or not." Intimidate being a Charisma battul. The players had been cool before, but now with this sudden rules flinging I was beginning to wonder. So I ask what his Charisma is.

It's a natural 20.

The GM let him start his Charisma at a natural

So psionics.
It has its problems, but I like it better than vancian magic, and wish to use it instead of wizards and sorcerers.
Has anyone attempted this?
I've already had a player complain that the terms it uses are 'too sciency', but the only other problem I see is explaining psionic focus without giving spellcasters something akin to monk training.

Pic hopefully unrelated.

One of my friends always forces the use of Spell Points from Unearthed Arcana, I think, when he DMs 3.5. As for Psionics, I just think of it as a different kind of Magic. Divine casters take energy from some greater power and channel that, Arcane casters use the energy of the world around them, and Psions use their own personal energy. At least, that's the way I think of it so I can blissfully ignore how the flavor is different.

We're doing an All Flesh Must Be Eaten game in #allflesh on irc.rizon.net. We can probably take one or two more players, and you can watch if you like.

Ok guys, I know this is trollbait on 4chan, but I'm rather hoping here I can get some reasonable discussion :V

4e. Now that it's been out for months on end, what do people think?

Personally, I found 3.x to be too breakable. Even without the myriad splatbooks, the core rules made certain classes excessively powerful at level, say, ten, and obseleted the other classes after that. Primarily here I am talking about wizards, with clerics catching up slightly after a few more levels.

4e has less of this problem, at the cost of a lot of customizability and sort of a loss of... freedom? Flexibility? To me, having named 'powers' makes me feel like some superhero in a JRPG.

That said, 4e is fun and allows for a lot of tactical thinking, and support classes are fun to play again.

So what does tgchan think? Is some version of D&D better than the others? Is comparing them to one another ultimately useless, or like comparing apples and oranges? Are all D&D editions inferior to FATAL?

They do, it's now just positives telling them what they are good at, and then they don't have negatives, so that as a player, if you want your character to be someone competent in the area that they normally got negatives in, you can do so more easily.

It leaves the player to decide what negatives the character has, making the creation more their own.

Ehh I liked the negatives becasue it gave me something to either work against (overcoming the challenge and defying the racially expected to become something more) or to work 'with' (lulz iz got's 7 int, anina- anmul-ani-... der is beastes smarta n; meh bu dey cannot accedently my... erhm... a hol AXE!)

I'm glad they got rid of the negatives, myself. I don't think it makes the fluff of, say, a 'bizarre' half-orc wizard or elven melee STR-fighter any less valid. If anything, it just means that the character's playability isn't negatively impacted, which enables the creation of such characters. I don't think I need a mechanical slap on the hand to tell me that elves are not normally barbarians, thanks.

What!? Related Content?

So the Monster Manual 3 for 4th Edition came out recently.

Low and behold, a 35 Solo monster has only 500 health.

Considering a major problem that DM's were running into were fights starting to last too long due to huge health gains over a much slower player damage chart, this looks like a good Monster Manual update.

The monster has two forms with their own hit point totals.

Alright guys. Since we all know all of us are more creative than each of us, you had to have found a few game ideas from all things /tg/. So what /tg/ type ideas have you added into your games because you liked them?

Pic related. Cutebolds always.

I had an feral world huntsman (Assassin) who eventually gained psychic powers due to a series of horrible and unlikely events. He wore an eyeless bronze plague doc mask covering a horribly scarred and equally eyeless face.

He was a melee monster with 4 attacks a round (although only a 35% chance to hit with each.) If he couldn't close with an enemy he used some witchunter's repeater crossbow from one of the Dark Heresy supplements.

I later offhandedly mentioned that he was engaged to what was likely the descendant of a shipwrecked Navigator family from his haunted swamp homeworld. I don't think anyone caught the reference despite RQ running at the time and all the players being /tg/ frequenters.

<related shoop was supposed to represent said character.

My players now refuse to enter ruins that are dwarven.
They'll seriously spend a week in-game calling in experts to make sure it's not dorfen craftsmanship.
Seriously, you trap them in a city full of ghosts and insanity ONE TIME...

Before /tg/, I didn't give two shits about dwarves. They were melee and generic and kind of uninteresting.

After /tg/ (and 4e making melee not only viable, but downright good), dorfs have become one of my favorite races.
